Job Summary

We are seeking an outstanding sales management leader that has strong skills and experience in managing a sales team, a distributor network and a large retail customer base. This individual must demonstrate the successful ability to work in an entrepreneurial environment in high growth mode, while mentoring our internal and external sales teams and create sales and marketing trade programs for our distributors and retailers to grow distribution and sales. This person must have current and meaningful relationships with UNFI, KeHE, and other DSD distributors and all key retail accounts in the Northeast market.

Other specific traits necessary for the role are; proactive communication both written and verbal, setting sales goals, training, tracking and reporting results, set and attend regular strategic and business review meetings with distributors and retailers and provide information to management. A winning, yet humble, attitude to make things happen and get things done and endless ideas to grow the business.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the VP of Sales to develop and execute the sales strategy.
  • Be an excellent role model for the company values and culture.
  • Build, manage, train and give regular feedback to the Northeast sales team; responsible for setting goals and reviewing results, growing distribution and sales through account acquisition, trade programs and ensuring continued market penetration.
  • Work closely with all distributors salesforce to grow distribution and sales through attending key account sales calls, sales meetings, contest, programs, route rides and strong relationships.
  • Secure 100% distribution and grow sales in all retail accounts in a variety of channels including Natural and Organic, Food Service, Specialty, Grocery, Convenience, Seasonal, and others.
  • Maintain key retail customer relationships and develop and implement strategies for expanding the company’s product line and customer base through promotional activity and demos.
  • Manage all sales activity to the sales budgets while delivering profitable margins and within budgets.
  • Communicate all activity and results accurately and timely to management team.

Business Development

  • Identify the best distributor network for 100% market coverage and service
  • Source and secure new and incremental retail distribution across multiple channels: conventional & natural grocery chains & independents, universities, corporate accounts, fitness, C-store, food services, etc. to significantly grow ACV.
  • Seek other opportunities to grow distribution and case sales

Develop Broker & Distributor Partnerships

  • Manage and work with brokers to ensure maximum attention to Goldthread at distributor and retailer levels
  • Present and train broker network on key initiatives in a clear and concise manner
  • Build a strong line of communication and understanding with distributors, sales personnel, and company employees.
  • Schedule and conduct ride-alongs with applicable DSD distributors
  • Participate and present at distributor and broker staff meetings where applicable
  • Organize and conduct sales blitzes with key distributor partners, and leverage relationships to secure new business
  • Organize and support distribution partners with sales training, merchandising support, and put together promotions and sales incentives to drive sales

Field Sales

  • Seek new business opportunities, support local distributor partners in securing new business, assisting on crew drives, providing sales training and merchandising support to assigned distributors
  • Build relationships in key accounts to help support in-store execution
  • Partner with Marketing to create and implement effective brand awareness initiatives to drive sales and retailer partnerships

Be an Avid Brand Ambassador

  • Spread the Goldthread brand through friends, family, social media, and passive sampling
  • Embrace and exude the company’s philosophy and its core values
  • Partner with Marketing to create and implement effective brand awareness initiatives to drive sales and retailer partnerships

Desired Skills and Experience

  • An entrepreneurial drive and proven 4-6 years of Northeast regional sales experience in the CPG space, preferably functional beverages.
  • Track record of managing people and exceeding sales goals while delivering against profit expectations.
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience working with UNFI and KeHE.
  • Responsible for maintaining sustainable records of sales against quotas and documenting achievements.
  • Ability to plan and manage at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Ability to work with tight and demanding timelines.
  • Ideal candidate has experience within the food and beverage, nutritional supplement or functional beverage category. Natural channel a plus. Other related categories will be considered.
  • Current relationships and familiarity with key Northeast retail accounts are required: ability to identify and influence key decision makers and build strong, long lasting relationships while building brand sales.
  • Experience working with distributors (DSD) and warehouse/wholesalers is necessary.
  • Considered a “closer” and can provide evidence to support direct sales achievements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results driven, team oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication skills: active listener, confident presenter.
  • Ability to adapt to a start-up environment and willingness to be an integral part of company’s growth.
  • Must be driven, take initiative, be customer-centric, creative and self-motivated, work with a sense of urgency, have strong leadership abilities and be able to thrive in the role without daily onsite management.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Able to work out of a home office, preferably in the Northeast region of the United States (preferred home office location: New York City or within 50 miles of a major airport)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
