Stumptown Coffee Roasters Debuts Rare Red Gesha Grand Cru Whole Bean Coffee
Stumptown Coffee Roasters has released its first Grand Cru coffee offering of the year, the alluring Colombia Mauricio Shattah Red Gesha.
During a recent two-month coffee buying trip in Colombia, the Stumptown team uncovered this small batch from coffee producer Mauricio Shattah. The unique characteristics of this Red Gesha result from years of Shattah’s meticulous cultivation and careful processing. It’s one of highest scoring coffees that Stumptown has cupped this year.
“We’ve been fanatics for the fabled Gesha variety for ages, so we are always on the lookout for this rare gem,” notes Stumptown’s Director of Coffee, Andrew Daday. “Mauricio Shattah’s Red Gesha marks the pinnacle of his crops and of our Colombian offerings this year.”
A coffee receives Stumptown’s coveted Grand Cru designation if it stands out on the tasting table, bursting with rare and extraordinary sparks of flavor. The Gesha coffee variety is renowned for its unusual cup character.
Stumptown will offer the elegant Red Gesha coffee for purchase as whole bean coffee and as a bottled Cold Brew, notably marking the first time that Stumptown customers will be able to taste the same Grand Cru coffee brewed two ways.
Whole Bean Coffee: Sparkling, elegant and complex, the Red Gesha bursts with juicy notes of watermelon and rose water with a hard candy sweetness. Cold Brew Coffee: Last year, Stumptown offered a Grand Cru Cold Brew for the first time. This year, Stumptown is offering the Red Gesha Grand Cru Cold Brew in its signature stubby bottle, with a limited edition design. When brewed without heat, the smooth and complex Cold Brew reveals tasting notes of bergamot, dark chocolate and candied orange.
