Fresh Catch: Wicked Kitchen Acquires Plant-Seafood Maker Current Foods in Cashless Deal
Wicked Kitchen has acquired plant-based “raw” seafood provider Current Foods, a transaction that deepens the company’s food service offerings and grows its portfolio of plant-based products following its 2022 acquisition of Good Catch. Exact terms of the non-cash deal were not disclosed.
Gathered Foods Sells Good Catch, Shifts Focus To B2B
Wicked Kitchen announced today that it has acquired the North American rights to Good Catch, a line of plant-based seafood entrees and appetizers. Following the sale, Good Catch’s parent company, Gathered Foods, will shift its focus solely on B2B operations with services including product formulation and co-packing.

Gathered Foods Reels in over $20M More, Will Expand Services
Gathered Foods, the makers of Good Catch vegan seafood, announced yesterday that the alternative protein play had raised a series B round of $32.3 million, $10M of which was closed last year as a convertible note. The capital will be used to bring a new production facility online, which, in turn, will allow for international expansion of the Good Catch brand, food service opportunities and the opening of co-packing and R&D facilities for other food brands.
Good Catch Closes Convertible Note To Build Out Factory
Although it’s only had product in a limited set of stores since February, Gathered Foods, producers of Good Catch plant-based seafood products, is hoping to avoid the operational bottlenecks that have plagued (and slowed the growth of) other plant-based food companies. The brand announced last week the close of a $10 million convertible note in order to continue building out a factory for its line of high-moisture extruded seafood substitutes.
Good Catch Reels in Investment
The investment round was led by New Crop Capital with European food producer PHW Group, retailers Thrive Market and Fresh Direct also taking part.
